The Relational Atlas · Facet eleven · Small business and local commerce
Mine, and it moves with me.
A shopkeeper whose store is the centre of a small town’s week puts it in one sentence: ARC matters to me because my customers, my reputation, and my record are mine, and they move with me. This page is that sentence, worked as a pattern. It leads with the human sentences, because they are the point: the people who walk through the door are the shop’s own neighbours, the good name over the door was earned sale by sale, and the book that proves it should sit on the shop’s own counter. The machinery is named second, underneath, where it belongs: a node the business holds, provenance for what it sells, and settlement with its customers on a record the business itself can carry anywhere.
One thing stands in front of all of it, and this page prints it before anything else can be mistaken. This facet is designed, and it claims no merchant instance. No shop, maker, or service has traded through this machinery, and the strongest claim on this page, a business carrying its own record of trade, depends on a first live settlement in the money facet that has not happened yet. This page says both things at full size rather than borrowing strength it does not have. What stands nearby is real, and section three names it at its true strength: a contribution record a stranger can recompute, a published economics, and a consumer install standard adopted as the standard of record, the door a business would walk through to stand up its node.

A book of one’s own
The record of trade sits on the shop’s own counter, kept by the business that made the sales, readable by the business whenever it chooses.
Provenance for what it sells
What a shop sells carries where it came from and who made it, in a chain a customer can check before they trust it.
A reputation that moves
The good name over the door belongs to the business and travels with it, to any surface and any next street, instead of living and dying inside one platform.
Customers met on consent
The relationship with a customer runs on what that customer actually agreed to, scoped and readable, not on a list harvested and rented back.
Pause, revoke, prove it
A permission can be paused, a consent revoked, and the evidence for either produced on demand. Recourse is a settled act on the record, not an appeal into a platform.
One. the old way, renting your own customers back
Start where a small business actually trades today, inside systems it rents by the month and by the percentage. A local business rents its own customers back from platforms: the people on its street find it through a ranking it does not control, pay it through rails it does not own, and review it in stars that live on somebody else’s wall. The fees for all of this are set unilaterally and can change on a quarter’s notice, and the record of the business’s own trade, who bought what, who came back, who was owed and who was paid, accumulates inside containers the business can visit but cannot carry away.
And the one asset a small business spends decades building, its reputation, is the least portable thing it owns. The good name over the door is real on the street and invisible everywhere else, because the evidence for it, the reviews, the repeat trade, the standing, is held in accounts that belong to platforms. Move streets, change tools, fall out with a platform, and the business starts again from zero in every place except the memories of its neighbours. None of that is because shopkeepers failed to keep their books. They keep them constantly, inside containers that were never theirs. This facet is the other answer, worked move by move.
Two. the pattern, worked move by move Designed
Four moves, each worked the same way: what the old way does with it, what the relational way does instead, and the invariant underneath that carries it. The invariants are the atlas’s own, stated once for every facet. An identity you own. Consent before use. Credit by construction. A reputation that is yours and portable. Memory with provenance. Your agents acting under your law. And recourse that works: pause, revoke, evidence.
Move one. the business holds a node and its own record
The old way keeps the record of a business’s trade wherever the trade was rented, in the platform’s system, readable by the business only as far and as long as the holder allows, and exportable, if at all, in the holder’s format on the holder’s terms. The relational way starts from ownership. The business holds a node, the way a person does, and its record stands on a record the business holds: what it sold, what it was owed, what it settled, kept in a form it can carry to any surface, any accountant, any next tool, without asking a platform’s permission to read its own history.
Where this move stands. The invariants underneath are an identity you own, and memory with provenance. The node machinery this move draws on is live at full strength elsewhere in this atlas: nine nodes stand registered on the public record, each holding its own identity. The door a business would walk through to stand up its own node also stands on the record: the Consumer Install and Connect Standard was adopted as written on October 22, 2026, on the founder’s word, as the consumer standard of record. No business holds a node, no shop’s trade stands on a record of its own, and this page grades the move at the facet’s own grade: designed.
Move two. provenance for what it sells
The old way strips a product’s history at the shelf edge. Where a thing was made, whose hands it passed through, and what was claimed for it on the way are a label anyone can print and nobody can check. The relational way gives what a shop sells the same treatment this atlas gives a work of art: provenance as a chain anyone can recompute, from the maker through each hand to the shelf, so a customer checks the chain before they trust the claim, and the shop’s word about its goods is backed by a record rather than by a label.
Where this move stands. The invariants underneath are provenance anyone can check, and credit by construction. The provenance machinery is live and walked in this atlas: one contribution, an artist’s work in live production use, carries its whole chain in the open, recomputed link by link in facet one and walked again in facet five, from the original file to the credit ledger entry. No product on any shop’s shelf carries a chain of this kind, and no maker’s goods stand on one. The first chain belongs to a real business to file, and this page grades the move as designed.
Move three. settlement with its customers, on a record it can carry
The old way settles a shop’s trade on rails owned elsewhere, at fees set elsewhere, into accounts a platform can freeze, with the evidence of each sale kept in the platform’s book. The relational way settles between parties who hold their own keys, under terms settled first, with each movement entered on a record the business itself holds and can carry to any surface: the sale, the terms, the settlement, and the receipt, one chain the shop can show to anyone it chooses, a customer, a partner, a lender, without the platform’s copy being the only one that exists.
Where this move stands. The invariants underneath are credit by construction, and recourse that works. This is the move the banner’s dependency governs, and its standing is quoted at exactly the strength the record carries, no taller. The settlement and credit machinery stands at facet five’s grade: Live in labeled simulation. One contribution stands recorded in the foundation simulation credit ledger, its hash recomputed and matched at that facet’s staging, its price honestly unset, and the ledger says SIMULATION on its own face because no real money moves in it and no real arc moves in it either. No customer of any business has ever settled on it. This move cannot stand taller than the machinery it rides on, and this page grades it as designed, with the dependency named: the money facet’s first live settlement comes first.
Move four. a reputation that is the business’s own, and agents under the owner’s word
The old way holds a business’s reputation hostage to wherever it was reviewed, and reaches its customers through lists and audiences rented from the same platforms that hold the stars. The relational way makes standing a thing the business holds: its record of trade, its provenance chains, its settled history, readable as evidence the business can present anywhere, so the good name over the door travels because the record under it travels. The relationship with each customer runs on consent that customer actually gave, scoped to its purpose and readable afterward. And when the business sends an agent to act for it, a restocking order, a reply, a booking, that agent acts under the same governance as the owner’s own word: proposed, admitted or refused, executed, and receipted, never on borrowed credentials in the dark.
Where this move stands. The invariants underneath are a reputation that is yours and portable, your agents acting under your law, and consent before use. The governed-agent machinery is live at full strength in facet three of this atlas, where a founding team’s agents work under admissions and receipts tonight. The reputation half of this move is the pattern, and this page says so: no portable reputation record for any business exists, no customer consent of this kind has ever been filed by a shop, and no business’s agent has ever acted under this governance. The move stands at the facet’s grade: designed.
What the shop holds, underneath all four
Every record above has to live somewhere, under somebody’s law. In this architecture it lives in the Vault. ARC is the architecture; the ARC Vault is the vessel’s hold, the container layer where a record is kept. A shop’s hold would carry the business’s own record: its customers’ consents and what they were given for, its trade history and settlements, the standing it earned and the evidence for it, preserved as relations and their meaning under the owner’s law, not as data inside a platform’s commerce product. The Vault does not store files. It preserves relations and their meaning under the owner’s law, and its gate is a threshold crossed only by the owner’s settled word. What the platform era kept in systems a business could not carry away, the business keeps in its own hold.
Where this stands. The Vault naming is staged for the founder’s approval like all brand language in this program, and the shop record’s place inside it is stated here as the pattern specifies it. The container layer exists in the application today as Your Vault. A business’s record carried in it at the depth this page describes is the design this facet exists to state.
Three. the ingredients nearby, and the empty storefront
This facet is designed rather than staged because its pattern is fully specified and its instance has not happened, and honest about the distance between those two facts. No merchant instance exists on the record. Say it with nothing around it: no shop, maker, or service has traded through this machinery, no business holds a node, and no storefront anywhere stands behind this page. The storefront in the illustration is invented, and the one on the record is empty, and this page is written so that nobody can mistake the pattern for the business that has not yet stepped forward.
What does exist stands nearby, and it is presented here at exactly the strength the record carries. The ingredients are three. A contribution record exists, and a stranger can recompute it. A published economics states the credit machinery’s rules and its simulation label in the open. And a consumer install standard stands adopted as the standard of record, the same door any person walks through to stand up a node, which is the door a business would walk through too. Ingredients are not an instance. A kitchen with flour, heat, and a recipe has not baked anything, and this facet claims the ingredients at their strength and the baking not at all.
The ingredients, at their verified strength
The contribution record: contribution-001, the first entry in the foundation simulation credit ledger, sequence 0, recorded October 22, 2026, its entry hash recomputed and matched when facet five was staged, its class recorded and its price honestly unset, priced set to false with the reason written into the entry itself. The economics: the published economics page states the arc, Schedule v0.3, and the simulation at the same strength as facet five prints them, including the one priced class the schedule defines, a developer artifact published at 15 arc inside the same labeled simulation. The door: the Consumer Install and Connect Standard, adopted as written on October 22, 2026 as the consumer standard of record, its eleven reconciliation seams standing as open items in their named homes. Through that door, a person stands up a node as a self install through the agent they already use; a business would come through the same door, and none has.
Where this stands. Every item above is read from the record at its own strength: the contribution record at facet five’s graded strength, live in labeled simulation; the economics at the strength its own page prints; the install standard as adopted, with its seams open and named. None of it is a merchant instance, none of it describes a business trading, and this facet’s grade is untouched by all of it: designed.
The dependency, and what raises this facet
The catalogue places this facet eleventh in the build order for one stated reason, and this page repeats it rather than softening it: its strongest claim, a business carrying its own record of trade, depends on the money facet’s first live settlement. Building the claim earlier would borrow strength it does not yet have. So the order of events is printed here as plainly as the pattern: first, one real payment between two nodes against a recorded contribution, which raises facet five from simulation to live; then a business settling its own trade on machinery that has settled for real at least once.
What raises this facet. The catalogue names the act: the first local business node with one real settled transaction on its record. The business will choose its trade, its terms, and what of its record to publish, the way every node on this network has chosen for itself. When it happens, this page’s pattern becomes an instance and the grade rises on the strength of the record, not a day before.
Where this facet stands. DESIGNED. The pattern is fully specified: a business holding a node and its own record, provenance for what it sells, settlement with its customers on a record it can carry to any surface, its reputation held as evidence it owns, and its agents acting under the same governance as the owner’s word. Beside it, the ingredients stand at their verified strengths, and its strongest claim waits, in print, on the money facet’s first live settlement. No merchant instance is claimed, no shop is presented as trading on this record, and no sale is implied anywhere on this page.
The extent, in one visit
Facet eleven of the Relational Atlas. Facet seven showed a grower’s name carried to the table; this facet shows the same invariants on the main street: what a business sells carries its provenance, what it earns stands on its own book, and the name over its door is backed by a record the business itself holds and can take anywhere. Its ingredients are real and checkable, its dependency is printed where its strongest claim stands, and its first merchant has honestly not yet appeared.
My customers, my reputation, my record. Mine, and they move with me.
